Why should I take up Archery:-
Archery is an excellent sport for old and young alike, promoting physical fitness and mental discipline. Prevention magazine says drawing a bow burns about 140 calories per half-hour So what can it do for you?:-
Muscle Development: Just like lifting weights, using a bow develops your muscles. Archery acts on the major muscle groups of the upper body such as, the rhomboids, levator scapulae, trapezius, deltoids, latissimus dorsi, and the rotator cuff muscle group, which includes the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and teres minor which are found in the back and shoulders and the biceps and triceps in the arms.
Flexibility and dexterity in the hands: Fine motor skills are in almost constant use whilst manipulating the bow and arrows. The act of drawing a bow also helps develop strength in the hands and fingers.
Improved balance: Archery improves your core muscle strength and requires you to hold your aim on target for several seconds, thus training your body to balance.
Hands have to work independently to achieve the goal of successfully getting arrows on the target. The actions of the hands have to work in concert with the eyes to aim and successfully hit the target gold.
Attention to detail and patience: Archery is not about speed, it relies on precision and that takes time and patients. You need to learn to tune out all distraction and focus solely on the task at hand, which is simply to put the arrow in the centre of the gold.
